Enabling the SSL Certificate
The final step of setting up WP Engine is installing the SSL Certificate. WP Engine comes with a free SSL certificate which is a great added extra.
On the left side of the Overview page in WP Engine, click SSL and then go to Add Certificates.
Next click on Get FREE Certificates at the top of the next page.
You will then be redirected to a new page. Select the checkbox for your primary domain, then agree to the terms and conditions, then click Request SSL Certificate.
You will then see a screen confirming the request of your SSL Certificate. Click Return to Portal SSL to return to your SSL home page.
You will receive an email to notify you once your SSL certificate has been set up. It usually takes less than an hour for this, but can take up to three hours.
Configuring your SSL Certificate Settings
You now need to make sure the SSL is properly configured so that your site is secure.
Go to Overview > SSL in WP Engine.
Under Settings, make sure that the radial button for ‘Allow HTTPS and HTTP’ is selected.
Then, for each of your domains, open up the drop down on the right and select ‘Secure all URLs’.
Click Save all changes.
Head over to your WordPress Dashboard
Go to Settings > General
Under WordPress Address and Site Address you will need to put in your domain name with the prefix https://. Make sure you use the primary address you selected in WP Engine.
Once you’re done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.
